*spoiler alert

Set in a futuristic Japan, the Government has an advanced technology called "AllTale" which can realistically record the past to preserve the country's history and culture.

Then one day, Naomi Katagaki, the leading character notices an unusual aurora borealis in the sky. An odd crow flew over and snatched his notebook. He follows the crow leading him to a shrine. There he met another Naomi Katagaki and from there his adventure starts.

I'm expecting more drama romance in this film, something like it will give you a tearjerker. There's a tearjerker scene but not enough for my tears to drop, It never came. The story lacks impact. But no doubt the animation itself gives an impact - It's impressive!

Plus in the story, I find it unrealistic and not feasible for technology like "AllTale" to become true in the future (in our real world); on the point where it can record human intelligence too as the past-Katagaki is sentient in "AllTale" world. I find copying human intelligence invasive and susceptible to privacy abuse. It's unethical. And who knows, It could be copying the soul of a human too. I have so many questions about "AllTale" but I guess, I'll leave it as an entertainment-only subject and no chance Tomohiko Itō will give an in-depth explanation about the AllTale. I also guess he got the idea of AllTale because he got the inspiration from directing Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online into anime.

I'll just leave it at that - a drama romance flick animation. I will not think much anymore on the tech side.

The story is okay, I'll gauge further the rating to a 'very okay' film since I really like the cinematography. The HD-ish plus CGI-ish quality animation.

My rating will be in the middle: 5.0 / 10.0

Another World

another world spin off to hello world 2019 poster
This three-episode spin-off was released before the main film. A reference for viewers to understand further the story background. It's a 10-minutes long per episode. Watching this is actually more appealing than watching the main film. You can feel the hardship of Naomi Katagaki of the real world (not the recorded Naomi Katagaki), he did everything for the sake of love.

If you skip this spin-off, you might find the real-world Katagaki arrogant, and selfish which is partly true but there's a reason behind those and you'll find that out with this spin-off episodes.

Trivia:
  • Tomohiko Itō also directed the first two seasons of Sword Art Online Anime. Sword Art Online, a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara (where Tomohiko Itō directed the anime version) also takes place in a futuristic world where people can play a role-playing game with a cerebral device.

Film Review: Not a long film. Simple & Just Good.
by , November 17, 2013 | Rating:/ 10 stars

The version of the animation i watched is English-dubbed. It's weekend and there's not much i need to do so i just watched this anime film produced by Studio Ghibli. Studio Ghibli is best known for producing quality animation film in Japan. I remember watching "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" when i was young and i liked it. Latter the time i'm already old, there i realized Studio Ghibli produced that Nausicaa movie. I looked up for their other anime films and i found one in AnimeCrave.com (here's the link of the free to watch video here). The title is "The Cat Returns".

I like the twist of the story. It's just hour and half long. Simple and good. There is good humour to it aside to her talking to cats. Though it's a little old, the quality of the animation is still fine.

I would recommend this to young ones, to my niece, I think. It's worth a watch.

Lesson (Warning: Spoiler Alert):

I noticed something in the ending part of the story where Haru and her friend saw two young moms passed by carting their babies. Haru stare at them and said "That's too bad." (see screenshots below):

Haru's friend gossiped that Machida broke up with his girlfriend.

Then, two young moms (i just think they're young) passed by. Haru stare at them.

Haru judged the two young moms. Why?!

Did she assumed Machida (her crush), pregnated his ex-girlfriend? Well, Machida wouldn't like her in the first place because she's messing all around (first part of the story). She got no confidence about herself. She just changed after exiting the Kingdom of Cats.

Popular Actress Dubbed The English Version of this Film:

I am surprised about who dubbed Haru in this anime film. I saw Anne Hathaway's name in the ending credits (see screenshot below):

Why i did not knew about this back 2002? I became familiar with Anne Hathaway with her role in The Princess Diaries film back in 2001 but not her dubbing this good animation. Well, I think, this animation film didn't reach Philippines back 2002. In my opinion, Philippines' Movie & Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB), the governing body who decide what films to release here in this country, think this film will not generate money. Are we not overfed with western-made films already? To new MTRCB chair, heed my request, change the game, take Japanese animated films like thos showing to local cinemas.

Looking On Buying The Film?
